Newborn

The arrival of a new baby presents many wonderful changes for you and your family. Becoming a new parent is thrilling, but it can be a daunting challenge as well. Please do not hesitate to call The Kidz Docs for any questions pertaining to your newborn between regularly scheduled well visits. As your pediatric healthcare providers, we look forward to helping care for your newborn. As you become more comfortable and relaxed with your new baby, you will find that you know him or her better than anyone.

Hospital Care

If you deliver your baby at a hospital at which our practice has privileges (Alexandria Hospital, Fairfax Hospital), one of our pediatricians will visit you and your newborn daily. We usually make rounds early in the morning before office hours or at the lunch break. The hospital will notify our doctor when your baby is born. If any problems arise in the newborn period when we are not in the hospital, the neonatalologist-on-call will see your newborn for our group and will call us after he or she has evaluated your baby. Please feel free to ask us any questions when we visit.

Your stay in the hospital is usually 24 to 72 hours, depending upon your mode of delivery. On the day of your discharge, we will tell you when to make your first office appointment. This is usually one to three days after discharge. If your baby is born at another hospital, we ask that you see us within 24 hours of your baby's discharge.
