Newborn - First Visits

In general, we will be seeing your baby in the office once within the first week of life and at two weeks of age. We may be seeing your baby more often if we have any concerns about feeding, weight gain, or jaundice. We will be measuring your baby's weight, length, head circumference, and temperature at every well child checkup. We will then ask you about the baby's feeding schedule, urinating/stooling patterns, and sleep patterns, and we will perform a full physical exam.

Many babies lose weight after they are born, so we pay special attention to the baby's weight during these first office visits. Most newborns should be back up to their birth weight by two weeks of age. We can direct you to one of our lactation educators if you have any concerns about breast feeding during these initial office visits.
