Junior & Senior High School - School & Activities

School is the teens most important activity in Jr. and Sr. High School. Adolescents whose academic performance in school is substandard may later confront severely curtailed choices. This includes those youths who have chosen to seek vocational training in school. We at The Kidz Docs encourage adolescents to explore all personal, vocational, and educational options.

Students whose school performance has decreased suddenly need to be thoroughly evaluated to assess the reasons for the decline. Teens who are struggling in school also need a complete evaluation to determine how best to help them achieve their maximum potential.

Activities should enhance the teen years, but not overshadow these years. We encourage teens to make the commitment to become physically active. They should try to do some physical activity every day, whether it is through physical education classes in school or an activity on their own. Exercise should be a routine part of their day, just like brushing their teeth, eating, and sleeping. It may help to plan a physical activity with a friend or family member. Most people find that it is more fun to exercise with someone else. Now is a good time to pick a "life sport" that they enjoy.

Regular exercise should include aerobic activity. Aerobic activity is continuous. It makes you breathe harder and increases you heart rate. This type of exercise increases fitness levels and makes the heart and lungs work more efficiently. It also helps maintain a normal weight by burning off excess fat.

Physical activity is just one important part of preventive health care, and should be a part of everyone's daily lifestyle. The activities teens decide to do should be enjoyable and varied. No single activity, (academics, clubs, or sports), should take over the students life. Balance is the key to healthy bodies and minds.
